7 Dec 2010This week John David led us in singing God’s praise.
We celebrated the fact that God rescues us through Jesus with Matt Redman’s You Alone Can Rescue. We had 8 people get baptized this Sunday, and In Christ Alone to frame it. We sang verses 1 and 2, ending with “here in the death of Christ I live,” then baptized our brothers and sisters, and then sang verse 3:
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His, and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ
Josh preached from 2 Thess. 1:11-12 exhorting us to pray and live “By His Power“.
After the message we responded by singing Grace Unmeasured. Then we introduced a new song written by Matt Richley, who is interning in music and worship at Sovereign Grace Ministries and Covenant Life. Matt wrote this song in response to our current sermon series.
Spirit of God,
Captivate our lives
Create in us
Humble hearts that honor ChristWe cast our idols down
Before you lay our crowns
We bow, You reign, Jesus
Our lives an offering
Surrend’ring everything
We bow, You reign, JesusSpirit of truth
Show our hidden sin
Come make us pure
Release our hold on worldly thingsOh God, we’re desperate for You
And your power to live in light of Your grace
Forsaking all else for the love of our Savior
At the end of the second meeting we did an extended time of worship singing mostly songs about God’s grace: Your Grace, Amazing Grace, O Great God, and As Long As I Have Breath.
